Dad, I'm scared"
"What are you afraid of?"
"I'm not sure."
The daughter crouches in a corner at her mom's house, crying on her cell phone. Her mom is entertaining friends in the background while her father attempts to console her over the phone, telling her that everything will be ok. "I promise," he whispers. She believes him.
This moving scene from "Joe Somebody" caught me by surprise. The shock was unexpected and intense because I have had the same conversation with my daughters and have ached each time I hung up the phone because I wasn't there to hold them until their fears went away.
