Illinois District Council for the Assemblies of God, along with New Life Media of Illinois, sponsored Single Parent Family Adventure at the Illinois District Campground July 28-30 in Carlinville, IL. Parents of all ages with all ages of children (average 3 years old to teenagers) attended from Illinois and Missouri.
The theme was “Survivor” weekend and included activities such as an obstacle course and tug of war. Lake activities such as a waterslide, an iceberg rock climbing wall, a water trampoline, boats, canoes and swimming were included.
Lori Little of Hope and Help for the Single Mom was the keynote speaker for the weekend. Lori's message was clear, relevant and delivered with passion. Among the well-received was her message on forgiveness. Lori used the lessons she has learned from her own experiences as a single parent to challenge her audience to believe that health and wholeness are possible with the help of a God who loves them.
“What was unique is that the children were in my sessions, so they heard some of the principles. I received several emails from the parents saying the children really listened to what I said and it has made great conversation in their families,” Little said.
When asked "What is the most important change you want to make in the next three months?” one camper responded, “I want to regain my Christian walk. I have felt distanced for nearly a year and gotten further and further into confusion. I need to be stronger for my children." Another said, "To forgive those in my life that I need to forgive so I can rid myself of the baggage of my past. But more important than that - to give my life to Christ."
“I believe what most attendees learned is that they are not alone and forgotten,” Little said. “Hearts were changed and wounds were healed by the love of God. I really think it made the single parents know that someone really cares about them and they are special not only in God’s eyes, but the in the eyes of the church.”
